Concordia Pet Care
2019-07-18
A young French Bulldog was brought to Concordia Pet Care presenting with back pain, fever, loss of appetite, and lethargy. Initial treatment with pain relief medication and cage rest failed to resolve his symptoms, prompting our team to investigate further.
Our veterinarians carried out a comprehensive workup including blood tests. Results revealed a low platelet count, with no signs of anaemia. A blood sample was sent to an external laboratory for deeper analysis, which confirmed a diagnosis of Ehrlichiosis — a tick-borne disease commonly seen in Hong Kong.
Following targeted antibiotic treatment, the French Bulldog made a rapid and full recovery — quickly returning to his characteristically playful and mischievous personality.
Ehrlichiosis is not uncommon in Hong Kong. Beyond treatment, the best approach is prevention. Regular use of tick prevention products can significantly reduce your pet's risk of exposure.
Speak to your veterinarian to find out which tick prevention option is best suited to your pet's lifestyle and health needs.
